Schizophrenia is a severe, chronic, and generally disabling brain and behavioral disorder. It is most accurately described as a psychosis - a type of illness that causes severe mental disturbances that disrupt normal thoughts, speech, and behavior. Schizophrenia is believed to be caused by a combination of generic and environmental factors

Bipolar disorder, formerly called manic depression, is a mental health condition that causes extreme mood swings that include emotional highs (mania or hypomania) and lows (depression). Symptoms can cause unpredictable changes in mood and behavior, resulting in significant distress and difficulty in life. Bipolar disorder is believed to be cause by different brain structure and genetics.
